Well, I made is safely and have discovered that London is without air conditioning, and it's been rather hot...needless to say, I'm smelling very German.
The flight was uneventful. I read and watched a couple of movies, and did not sleep.
Today was spent at the london museum with the group from Penn State. The museum itself is under renovations, so really, only half of the displays were available to view, but it was still informative. Here's the death mask of Oliver Cromwell....
Then Jeff, Todd, Amalia and walked around the city for a bit. We saw many Wren spires and churches. Our favorite building so far isn't a historic landmark persay, but we couldnt' find any plaque marking its significance. The only thing I saw was a marker saying Charles Dickens lived there. Anyway, the building was really interesting, and many pictures were taken...
I haven't been quite able to wrap my head around the concept that I am standing in places where Romans stood, where people have been recording history for millenia, in the country that we won our independence from. Granted, many of the older building were destroyed in the great fire of 1666, but there are a few remnants lying around. Like a portion of the wall of London, thought to be lost, but then a section was uncovered during WWII when a German bomb opened up a crater and revealed a section of it...
I'm taking lots of pictures, mainly because I don't know when I'll be able to get back, and they're good design references. 161 pictures so far.
All in all, I totally feel like a tourist, but we're hanging out in a group, so that makes it a little better. And yes, Todd and I have already found a pub we like, called "The Plough". Yes, we do ask "wanna get ploughed?" when we're thirsty. The answer seems to be "yes" quite a bit.
I got to Skype with Angie and Max for a little bit. Max looks thrilled to be seeing his Grandma and Grandpa, and they are thrilled to be spending time with him. Mommy says that Grandpa wants to take Max to all the various locations around Minnesota and take pictures to send to me, so I'm looking forward to seeing Max in the gun shop, the Harley-Davidson store, the fishing outfitters, etc. :)
Well, I have to get ready to see a show tonight. No A/C=Michael stinks. I'll leave you with a picture of where I might have dwelled had I been a resident of London many moons ago...
